January Garden Gear Up

Take these simple steps now to help create a thriving, luxuriant garden throughout the seasons.

  • It’s time to prune roses, fruit trees and ornamental grasses so you’ll enjoy them at their best during the growing season.
  • Dormant spraying now will control overwintering pests that can otherwise wreak havoc in the garden. Deciduous fruit trees, roses and some shrubs can all benefit from dormant spraying.
  • Refresh bark and add mulch. Handling weed and litter control now reduces maintenance time later and pays off in healthier, more beautiful landscapes.

Nice Gardens Can Go Gorgeous with Proper Winter Prep

Prolific fruit trees, luscious berries, and romantic, scented sprays of roses all get their start in the sleepy January garden. Whether you have a small residential yard, a large country property, or an outdoor space where you take delight in puttering, why not let Geared for Growing handle the heavy cleanup work so you can enjoy your garden at its best.

Photo of beautiful mature landscape designed by Geared for GrowingRegular garden maintenance scheduled monthly, quarterly, or even as one big, annual cleanup, is one of the most cost-effective, ongoing investments you can make in your landscape.

January is the time to protect tender plants and tropicals, plant bare-root roses, prune existing plants and ornamental grasses, and care for fruit trees and berries. Large country gardens will reap big benefits by treating them now with pre-emergent herbicides. It’s also time to take weed control measures, improve soil structure, and add nutrients to support perennials and the new annual spots of color that it will soon be time to plant.

Right now is the perfect time to envision and begin planning new design elements for your garden. If you are considering a covered structure to extend your outdoor enjoyment time or possibly wanting to incorporate picturesque stonework or even a kitchen garden area for cutting fresh asparagus, herbs, or your own baby field greens, January is a great time to get started—just give us a call!
