February Garden Gear Up

Believe it or not, winter is nearly half over, and with spring just around the corner, timing is everything in the garden now.

  • Care for dormant plants, finish pruning roses and fruit trees, and cut back ornamental grasses. February is still the perfect time to plant new fruit trees and bareroot roses and to begin dividing perennials.
  • Control crabgrass in lawns. Now is the only time to effectively use pre-emergent controls to stop this invasive weed. Take steps now to ensure a lush, vigorous lawn throughout the year.
  • Install lighting in the landscape to increase outdoor enjoyment year-round. Maintain existing systems and replace bulbs now for security purposes and to enjoy the full effect of proper lighting.
