This before and after garden makeover is the first in a series of award-winning designs we will share in upcoming editions of the newsletter. The Richard residence received first place for medium residential design. This project was developed to fit the changing needs of a family that is growing up. A lawn area that was no longer being used enough was transformed into a sophisticated space for entertaining. A flagstone patio added between the existing outdoor kitchen incorporates a new fishpond and waterfalls and creates space for seating around a portable fire pit. The existing vegetable garden was redesigned to include a bocce ball court and adjacent seating areas, which were made even more inviting with a grape-covered arbor and additional Mediterranean plantings. Water-Saving Water Features and Drought
Tolerant Gardens
Drought issues are still hot topics in the North Bay and throughout Northern California. Find relief and save $100 on Geared for Growing’s services to replace your lawn with a drought-resistant alternative. There is a huge variety of plant materials that are beautiful, colorful, fragrant, interestingly shaped and drought tolerant that can be used to create a low-maintenance garden oasis. One great water and time-saving choice is to consider a pondless water feature to create a cooling effect or to disguise nearby noise with the natural, soothing sounds of water.
